Greetings from the C3 section. I am posting this question for a friend who has a 03 Z06 with a Hurst shifter. He says it rattles and had heard that it was a known issue and also that there was fix. (I searched and found threads talking about general noise with the Hurst, but nothing specifically about the rattle.) Thanks for any help.
Tell your friend the best fix possible is that I will send him a "slightly used" stock shifter in exchange for his Hurst. He will be happy with his quieter shifter and I will be happy with my newly aquired HURST!!!!
Ok, OK... There has been several posts on here about what to do... A Tennis ball slipped over the shifter is one...(The boot goes back on over the top of it )
Others will chime in with more ideas... I just couldn't resist...

Tell him to get some LT's, and GHLs. He won't be able to hear the rattle.
hmm... my hurst shifter didnt rattle but my hurst **** did like crazy. i pulled if off and filled it with silicon and put it back on and that seemed to work. if your shifter is rattling its because the shaft is hitting the stops with drivetrain movement.
A tennis ball or a PVC pipe rubber boot will both help, but the first thing you need is a good shift **** that is heavy enough to dampen some of the shaft motion.
