Can you switch the driver and passenger seats on a Z06? I rarely travel with anyone, and rather than have the seat re-done right now, I figured if I could switch seats, it would be like getting a brand new one!? Anyone try this???
Ding! You finally hit a winner - I just did the seats in my 00 Coupe.
I had the same idea, swap leather. As for the bottom, as others have said, the controls are on the outside, so if you swap bottoms you'll have holes on the inside of each seat. I opted not to do this; however, the holes are about 5" below the top, no way anyone would ever know they are there - the seats rub tightly against the center console. I ordered a new driver's bottom from Fichtner for about $170.
As for the middle (sports seats), they swap out fine, and yeah I swapped the driver/pass middle portions.
The backs are different (go figure). Chevy put the inner bolster backed in felt, while the outer is vinyl - this is visible when the door is opened and I assume helps dissipate the heat. I swapped mine prior to even noticing, then swapped them back.
All in all, the seat covers come off pretty easily - I used small zip ties for the new cover as I'm not a prof. installer with the crimper tool - worked fine.
Now my car looks like it has new seats - no more drivers seat blues.

My 13-year-old son noticed this recently, about the felt backing on the inner bolster backs, and came up with what I think is probably a very good reason for this...
As you mentioned above the seats rub tightly against the center console. My son said he bets the felt was installed to keep it quiet -- to keep the vinyl from making noise when the bolsters rub against the center console.

I would agree with that, Pretty sharp 13-year-old!

Thanks! I was pretty impressed, myself! The kid asks a lot of good questions every morning on the way to school. Looks like he's starting to come up with some good answers, too!
