Default Front Skid Bars

Has anybody ever replaced this unit? It looks like the previous owner blasted a curb or something, pretty hard. It is not a big problem right now, but I'm going to lower it sometime in the near future. I don't want to take any chances with the front end when I do this. Do you know where I could get one, or even the GM part number? I think I saw one for about $180.00 somewhere.

Thanks,

I was wondering the same thing too. Mine are kind of beat up.

First off, check with Gene at the KarShop. He may have one and his prices are normally very good. If that doesn't pan out, try Fred Beans or Fichtner Chevy.

This was an easier procedure on the C4 than it is for the C5. There are places that sell skid plate covers, if a full replacement is to involved for you.

No big deal. GMpartsdirect.com sells them delivered for about $180 and the dealership is $270. It's held in by 4 bolts, 18mm hex-head I think. You'll need to pull the radiator or support it somehow and there are a series of small screws 7mm holding it to the fascia and the wiring harness simply unplugs on the passenger side. It is pretty straight forward. The 4 bolts that hold it to the frame thread into holes on the frame that have welded nuts inside the frame rail. You'll just need to torque them down to 36#s.

If you are considering a Vararam, this would be the time to install it.
