burn smell?

burn smell?

I have noticed lately that my 04 has a burning smell coming form the driver side rear of the car. Its real strong at the rear wheel, no, not rubber smell, tires are cold. I checked for something like plastic burning on the exhaust, but found nothing. Last time I noticed it, it had been driven hard, but not real hard, just a spirited run. Any ideas? It just smells like something is real hot, maybe traction control kicking in and getting the brakes real hot? But it is more on one side that the other.

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Some people have melted the underside if the car with them. I think some folks were reporting that with the B&B Bullets when they first came out.

Sometimes I smell this too, kind of like a rusty smell, like something is burnt from the same area described.

Can the Cats go bad and start smelling??

Cats can go bad and they can smell. Usually they can get burnt out if your car is too rich. It will probably smell like rotten eggs.

Is it a burnt metal smell? I know my friends Dads MS6 clutch stinks when they pull into the garage.

Take a close look at the exhaust (starting with headers).

I had this in my 427 ('99) for some time, until I went to 21st Century MC and had the Vert lifted.

To my surprise, on the exhaust manifold, just before the collectors, a plastic bag (from a supermarket) was found.

It really never burned up completely, just kept on smelling - sorta like a electrical wire insullation.
