Contemplating selling my 580 mile Z16 for a convertible my wife and I are thinking about. Local dealer here in New Jersey offered us $35,500 on trade but we'd save on taxes. Any idea what this would go in the private sector? We still owe about $32K on it so not sure how much headache we'd have to go through with selling to an individual. Thanks guys.
Give us a bit more info on the car. At 580 miles it sounds like brand new. Any reason to assume there are any marks/dings/nicks/curb rubs on the wheels or interior wear that would devalue the car?
If the answer is no, and it is "new" inside and out (and not even broken in yet) you should be able to sell for around $40K. There is another Z16 on the forum now with 400 miles and the seller wants $42.5
If you price it at a good price, you can sell it this week. Only the market can decide what that price is, but probably a bit below $40K.
Wow, that was quick. Thank you guys. Got 3 offers already and thinking about the highest one which was $37,000 from a local member in New Jersey. Will talk it over with the boss...
Well, depending on the sales tax in the state where you live, there can be from $2130 (6%) to $2840 (8%) savings doing the dealer trade/tax break. So you effectively are getting $37630 at 6% tax rate or $38340 at the 8% tax rate for your car. So is it worth it to sell out right for a gain of $1660 to $2370? Maybe not considering the trouble. Your call.
tell the dealer you want 36.5/37, dealers know the Z16 will bring in an easy 41+ and sell quick if they are networked correctly; the only problem w/ trade-ins is the games they play on the car you are buying, the price is usually not the same when it's a straight cash/finance deal
Matthew, a Z16 with such low miles could easily bring over $40,000. Don't be in a big hurry. There are convertibles all over the place for sale. Z16's are harder to come by. Especially one with low miles like yours. Advertise it for $42,000 or $43,000 and come down. It will sell.
