Default Manual release for trunk?

Hi all:

My battery (I think) is dead, and my jumper cables are in the trunk. When I press the trunk release button, the trunk doesn't release. Is there a manual release for the trunk somewhere?

Thanks.

Yes, it's in the center storage compartment (in the trunk). It's a thin cable looking "thingey".

That doesn't strike me as the greatest arrangement, but since it's a convertible, you can open the soft-top cover and get to it, though I don't know how convenient that might be for you.

Hmm...actually, if I can get to the center compartment in the trunk, then I should be able to get to my jumper cables without activating the trunk release. That's the theory, anyway.

Thanks.

Yes, I know this was probably in the owners manual, but I don't have that in front of me at work. So, I asked.

Those pictures are for the coupe. I believe that he has a convertible. The illustration that he needs should be on the next page though.

Convertible/Hardtop is on the right side of the page above... Coupe is on the left.

Unfortunately, You'll need to be a "Houdini" type person to get to the cable. Good luck....

Hmmm. you're right - your owner manual is different than mine (which is a 2002). In mine, it gives conflicting information about where to find the manual trunk release. It has both the paragraph in your pictures, and a paragraph as follows:

There is a glow-in-the-dark trunk release handle
located on the rear wall of the trunk below the latch.
This handle will glow following exposure to light.
Pull the release handle down to open the trunk from
the inside.

The illustration that accompanies the paragraph indicates that the handle is NOT in a compartment, but just on the rear wall of the trunk.

To see which paragraph is right for 2002, I went out to my car and looked. Mine has the glow-in-the-dark handle on the rear wall of the trunk, and no cable in the center compartment. I'm assuming that earlier cars had the release in the center compartment, and later ones had it in on the rear wall. I suspect that this change was brought about by laws requiring that trunks can be readily opened from the inside, so that people can't get stuck inside of trunks.

It would be interesting to know in which model year this change took place.

Looks like the glow-in-the-dark handle version started in the 2001 model year. Interesting. Thank you for the links!
