Default Need Help!

Hey guys, I opted to exchange the factory supplied AC Delco battery for an Optima Redtop battery after reading the advise of many on here. Well when I started my car to drive it today ( I havn't driven it since the battery change last week) it showed an oil symbol on the HUD. It caused me concern because I couldn't figure out what the problem could be. The car is a 2004 Convertible A4. It has only 5k miles on it and is in mint codition. Oil was just changed last month and should be good. I drove the car and watched the oil pressure and oil temps and it held an average oil pressure of about 40 PSI and oil temps about 201 degrees.

Could this be the oil change indicator? Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

When I changed my battery, I had a couple of little quirks too, but mine was with the radio. After I drove it awhile, everything went back to normal. Yours may too. I suppose the memory gets a little squirrely when you disconnect the battery.

You are probably right, but I am so **** about things that that little indicator symbol will drive me nutz until I figure out the cause!

Your HUD can be programed to show oil pressure, water temp, or voltage.I'd guess when you changed the battery it went to oil pressure as default.

That is the default setting, you can change it by hitting the page button. Holding the page button shuts down 1 of 3 functions. But hitting it quickly you will page through, Fuel gauge, Oil pressure, and water temp.

The radio will also reset and the theft lock, if activated, will lock.

So is it safe to assume this most likely is NOT a mechanical problem and simply a computer default setting?

When you scroll through the functions does this automatically reset the oil pressure indicator or is there another step in the process I need to do?

Sorry so many questions, this is my first Vette' and I have had no problems prior to this. Just don't want to screw something up out of ignorance.

OK! I think the light just went on!

The oil can symbol is on the right side in the HUD display and has a set of vertically stacked bars next to it. Prior to the battery change this was the fuel level indicator. So what I am understanding is this display can be selected to show different gauges based on the drivers desire and when I changed the battery it simply re-set to display oil pressure versus the fuel level?

If that is the case, I feel relieved! I thought it was an idiot light that went on to indicate a mechanical problem with the oil pressure! I didn't realize the HUD can be manually set to display different guages.

Thanks for all the help. Steve
