I have a 2000 coupe, black on black, and am seeing the paint bubble or almost blister under the clearcoat on the rear deck just after the where the rear window shuts. The area is about 6-8 inches wide and about 2 foot long. I am just courious if anyone else has experienced this? The problem appears to be isolated to just this area. It has just over 40k on it and has a home in the garage. Only ever used quality wax and so on. Any recalls on a black paint problem for a Y2K Coupe? Thanks for any input.
I have a trip black 2000 and no problems with the paint. I'm not aware of any bulletins and to the best of my knowledge I don't remember a post concerning this issue.
You may want to try posting also in the Car Care Section. Those guys may have some additional insight. Good luck
I have a thrple black 2000. No blistering like you described. My 2000 paint problems are due to poor wax techniques, car cover, and following too closely to other cars.
I seem to remember reading here on the forum, about a year ago, about a problem that GM was aware of along those lines, and were replacing the rear hatch. It's just a vague memory, but you might want to try looking into recalls or service bulletins.
GM has a bulliten on all 2000 to 2004 coupes on the hatch. When the two pieces are glued together, the glue leeches through to cause the paint to lift on the back hatch. I was fortunate enough on my '02 EB to get this fixed through a local dealer at no cost, even though it was out of warranty. Would have cost 3k, with paint and all. FYI.
i have a spot about 2 1/2 inches long by about 3/4 inch on the back hatch. it is halfway between the glass and end of hatch that has tiny tiny little blisters in the clear. looks like there was some moisture in the paint or on the paint prior to clear applied. the blisters are so small that they are only noticeable when pointed out. i wonder if thats what the bulliton is about. i will check out with the shop on wednesday when i get back to town.
