[Z06] Need help w/Vararam Install

Need help w/Vararam Install
I just got a new vararam. When you install the middle v piece so the rubber faces down it came with to little pieces of rubber that it says to put over screw heads. It seems like it will sit to high. Not sure what to do anyone delt with this? Does it matter which way the air filter faces? Mine is grey and both sides look the same. Thanks
