Default Texas cars?

I was shopping for a newer 'vette a couple of weeks ago, seeing what I might be able to do on a trade.

Two of the places I stopped at looked up my car's history and made comments to the effect that "good, it's a local, we're seeing a lot of cars coming up from Texas."

I've since sold my car privately and am now shopping around for a newer one.

Any idea why they would be making comments like that? What's the big deal about a car from Texas. I'd be more inclined to think they'd say that about cars from the New England area due to the harsher winters and road salt, but Texas?

Of course it's entirely possible they were speaking about cars from outside the area in general, and Texas was just the first place they could think of.

If it was from the coast of Louisiana, I could see a possible problem. I don't know why they would be worried about a car comming from Texas.

You can pull a cattle trailer with a Corvette? I didn't know that.

Maybe they're thinking "All hat, no cattle."

There are a lot of flood cars from the Gulf coast/Louisiana that are making their way out of the state. Probably just a comment that this could not be one of them. Normally, a "Texas car" would be desirable, as we have mild, mild winters with little to no snow and certainly no salt on the roads to corrode delicate parts underneath. Good luck in your search!

I hadn't thought of that (obviously). That makes a lot of sense.

Would those flood cars have salvage titles? Or would they have simply been repaired by the ins. co. and the title is still clean? In that case you'd have to hope that the info was reported to CarFax I suppose.

That was what I was thinking also. Plus you guys don't have curves to hurt the suspension or hills to put any strain on the drivetrain.

I wouldn't bet on that, you need to go down to the Hill Country near Austin or go on one of our DFW area Hwy 4 cruises.

I was just messin' with ya. A few years ago I belonged to a motorcycle mailing list and someone made a comment about there being no curves in Texas. One of the other guys on the list (from Texas) responded with "Sure we do, it's at the bottom of the hill."

One of those things that just managed to stick with me.
