I have a 2001 Corvette with an automatic transmission. I understand that the gear ratio was 2.73 or 3.15. I would like to know if changing to 3.42 gears would help me get all the hole quicker. Is there any way that I can tell what gear ratio is now in the car. I have looked in the glove compartment to find a tag that identifies this question.

If you have the 3.15 - the RPO tag on the glove box would show G92. If not the 2.73 has a RPO code of GU2.
Another way to tell is if you put the car in 3rd @ 70mph - your rpm's on the tach will say approx 2730 if you have a 2.73 and 3150 if you have the 3.15. I also believe the case itself has a tag that shows which gearset is inside.
And yes - a 3.42 will get you out of the hole a lot quicker! This is a pretty common upgrade that a lot of the A4 guys do. It will require some changes made to the computer with something like LS1 Edit, a Predator or HP Tuners.
