Default 2001 Power Wimdows

Has anyone had any problems with power windows? My passenger side power window will not go down. When I push the button on the driver side you can hear the click, it also clicks when the passenger side window button is pushed. I looked in the owner's manual to see if there was a lock-out safety feature on the system, couldn't find the answer.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I drove a C4 for 17 years and never had any power window problems.

HI. I had my driver's side window stuck in the down position. I read some of the posts here, window indexing etc. Then I took somebody's advice here and slammed the door and it has worked ever since. I think I had some intermittent problems when the battery was low on charge too. The Dukes of Hazzard door slam method worked... I couldn't believe it

I just had the same problem 2 weeks ago. Took to the dealer and it was the widow regulator. $450 to repair. I have Warranty Direct and it cost me my deductible, no questions asked and they did it in 4 hours.

I had both of mine go out on my camaro and they are the same regulators. Truth be known, they are not the greatest product designed. I make sure when I row my window up I crack my door. Reason? Well, when the door is shut the glass rubs against the weather stripping which causes the regulator to work harder to get it up. Sounds like a bunch of crap, but it is true. Just a tip of how I do things. If my wife takes a cruise with my, she will crack the door and do her side the same way as I do mine. The regulator is abotu $75 and if you have someone replace it, that is more money I would rather use for mods and I mean performance mods.

The clicking is, what I have been told, the indication that the power window motor is bad.

It is sort of like the clicking/grinding noises like the head lights gear, when it starts making that noise, it is going bad fast.

Default Thanks

Thanks Guys,

I'll try the door slam method and check the weatherstrip on the door, if these don't work then I guess it's off to the repair shop.

My problem was the window regulator, it a easy DIY project. Only 30 mins to take out and installed, but over 50 mins to re-aline the window.
Or maybe I am to pickey about win noise.

Do the other buttons work? (Locks, etc), and does the backlight work?
If not, check the harness.

If nothing works, then it may be bad connectors/pins on the harness in (whichever) door is giving you the problem. Dealer C-x specialist says he has repaired a large number of them lately, and blames a QC problem on the assembly line. Gm gives either a 0.4 or 1.4 for the repair time (after the door panels are off)

There may be about 13 fault codes in history, mostly regarding communication losses, probably 2 battery fault codes, and possible a speedo code.

And slightly lower battery voltage on the gauge.
When the duttons were not working, I too heard the clicking on key insert/remove.

If you jiggle the accordion tube to the affected door, the problem will go away temporarily.

But it will return until the connectors are fixed.

OTOH, earlier on the cars life, I too had to replace one of the window regulators; but I didn't have the clicking, etc, it just quit working.

I have had this same problem for about 3 years on my '01 coupe. I have tried the " slam the door method with the button pushed down" with some success. I have had to take off the door panel and hit the regulator with hammer handle and that worked. What I have found with all these occurances is that when my car sits in the hot sun the window fails , when the weather cools down over night it usually works the next morning. My theory is the heat is causing a connector to expand / contract / move and loose connection. I think the next time it happens I will check the connector that plugs into the regulator motor. PIA to get to but worth it to solve this ongoing problem.

GM is notorious for having bad power window motors/headlight motors. I had to replace a total of 3 power window motors on my brand new 99 Trans Am before 30k miles. Yes that's 3 different power window motors that went bad before 30k miles. I also had to replace a headlight motor before 30k miles. I just bought my Corvette, and already the passenger window motor is slower than the driver's side. I have a feeling it's going to crap out fairly soon. Thank god for extended warranties.

My 01 hasn't had the problem yet. If it does, I now know a few things to try.

Default Power Windows

AJ,

All of the other buttons work, the rear hatch, the drivers side window and the power door locks.

OK. When my regulator died, I didn't have the clicking, but it did click when the harness went flakey, so I went down that road.

If nothing else, eliminated one suspect, and may provide a clue if the other functions get wierd on you

Wonder if your Door Control Module is on the way out. The click could be a relay in the DCM closing but no connection across the relay contacts is being made. Not an uncommon problem with the door lock relay.

I bought my '01 Vette about 2 months ago & after a few days my passenger power window went bye-bye. After 2 weeks, I read threads here, & tried the "slam the door trick" a couple times & it worked - for a week. My Vette came with a GMPP extended warranty, which I will be using soon. While I'm at it, I'll try to get them to make window alignment adjustments to cut down on wind noise.
