ive read that u can lower the car by just loosening the stock bolts to where you only see 2 threads.....how safe and reliable is that and how much does it lower the car??
It's completely safe, with the possible exception of damage to your underbody parts from less clearance. I've lowered mine to 0 threads, and cut the front bushings off, and only acheived about a 1.25" total drop. No effect of handling that I can tell, but I also changed the wheel/tire combo. You should have an alignment done after.
I removed the front bolts completely on both of my previous C5's. I also installed solid aluminum strips to the frame, that became the lowest point on the car. No more hitting the bodywork.
The 02 owners video says that you can safely lower the car 10mm-15mm. Make sure that both sides get lowered the exact same, if not you can cause oversteer or understeer. You can also re-align the tires between 1.5-2.5 negative camber for better handeling in corners if you're tracking the car.
lowering on stock bolts, leaving two threads showing will usually nets you 3/4" after it settles......hardly worth it.....i am now going to longer rear bolts and cutting bushings.....you must get an alignment

Not a z, But maybe you guys will let me post here
GMAN do you have any more pics of the install on the strips? I just bought a 98 that has been dropped 1.5, and before I replace the fenders, I want to be able to protect them. Thanks in advance, Randy
Hello guys, I was also going to lower my 02 Z06, I have the longer bolts for the rear, but the question is for the front, I notice some of you guys cut the front bushing, will this hurt the front suspension in any way, and how will the car ride. (is this a good idea to cut the bushing??) I guess coil-overs are the way to go, but expensive, if anybody has a set for sale let me know, thanks for your help
However, if you are going for handling, then the T1 guys, and Chevrolet both say that the suspension works best lowered NO MORE than an inch (1"). The suspension geometry gets screwed up if the car is lowered more than that.
Randy, I bet you were parked next to my M/Y Z on Sunday at the Wal-Mart parking lot on Commercial SE.
C'mon fess up! I concur you have a nice-looking ride. Mine is going down some more once a couple of front tires show up at Hilyears. I assume the wheels are 06 Z06? Nice!

Yeah that be me. No other cars around to bang doors, and I had hoped the c5 that came in behind me would have parked there to make it 3 in a row. After I parked there I thought , Great, this guy is going to come out and see the z06 emblems on there and think what a dumbazz. I did not see a nasty note on the car, so I guess you let it go, . I have since removed the emblems, they were on there when I bought it. Yes the wheels are 06 zo6, also the seats(not sure what year). As I was walking up to the store a guy in a suv stopped me and asked when I did the conversion. I told him I bought it that way, and he let me know in very plain language that they did not make a zo6 with a targa top. Oh well. We will have to get together sometime and do a drive, turn a wrench, or just run ideas off each other. Although I am short on ideas since I just got the car a couple weeks ago. Randy
Thanks, I looked all over local and on the internet for 4 or 5 Months for the one car that hit me right, and this was it. Flew to houston, and drove it 2000 miles home in 3 days, what a great way to get to know a car. Uh oh, I hope we are not thread stealing, if so, Sorry
