When I ordered my car in 2001 I was torn between a Z06 or a convertible (same price point on either). I chose the vert because I've believed that top down driving was at the heart of a sports car. However, it always bugged me that GM couldn't get their C5 act together - after all they made plenty of 400+ HP convertibles in the past.
On March 20th I'm dropping my convertible off at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. Three weeks later I pick it up with 430 HP. It's taken some time but at last I can have the best of both worlds. Looking forward to finally being able to run with you guys.

I'm with ya. I LOVE my Z but unless gm decides to make the new Z into a removable top in the next 2 model years, I might have to make a switch. 2 minutes from p.c.h. you HAVE to have the top off. Congrats.
I agree, after alot of abuse from a friend of mine with a 2002 Z06 I put a 383 in my 1998 convt. It now has 427 rwhp and his Z won't stay within the same zip code when we race.
If I didn't track my car I'd get a vert in a heartbeat. I had a mustang cobra vert for fiver years, but started to get into the HPDE scene. I realized that the Z06 was the way to go for that, and I love the car. However on days like today (73 and sunny) I still miss my mustang.
just curious, if ya dont mind, if I could bother ya for the price?
I signed the contract back in December. The package ran $6,895. But since I already had a good cat back exhaust system, my total was $5,995. Prices went up a little on January 1st.

Hey thanks for the advise. But what fun that first and last run will be Seriously, I used to be at the drags every Friday night - but I'm a little older now and these days the wife and I mostly tour with other vette owners.

Technically, it's 13.99 and under. I have had convertibles, including a 305 HP '96 Cobra, but for me personally, getting into the performance range that the Z06 delivers, the car moves past "touring" and into serious business where I am more comfortable with a roof over my head and windows that are up.
I can fully appreciate one's desire for a super hi-po convertible though. Maybe it's a liability thing for GM, or perhaps it helps to further the reputation of the Z06 being "purpose built".
hutch, from the grandsport registry done it right a couple of years ago.. at the 50th anniversary he had his 2002 Z-06 painted like the grandsport with tons of extras and had the top custom made into a factory looking convertible... it was awesome.....

i remember seeing picture of that car. it was spectacular.
i do miss the 'vert experience (used to have a '99), but since the z only came in 1 roof flavor, oh well...

I'm still working on learning to post pics, but here's a link to the pic of the '02 Z06 painted like a GS.
