Default heads-up Display Problem

I have a 99' with an intermittent heads-up display. It will be on for two weeks, then goes off. It will come on some time later, then goes off. I thought if I hit a road bump it would be effected, but it doesn't. Any help out there? How do I get to the light bulb area?

The first thing I would check is the connection going to the instrument cluster. It may just be loose. It is a ribbon cable connector at the top of your instrument cluster. You will have to take apart the dash which should total 2-3 hours for the whole job your first time. You can follow the instructions at vette essentials or other places. Good luck.

Thanks Brian, it always seems like a connection or grounding problem.

I'm not sure if the problem would be the same, but when I had my GTP, a common problem was with the soldering connection that adjusts the light contrast vs day to night. During the day, it would be so dim you couldn't see it. Had to pull the hud and re-solder the light sensor that faces up.

Just another idea, if all else fails.

Sure does sound like a ground or connection problem. Hope it is that simple. If not, the parts aren't too expensive to replace.
