I have some wear but its not bad for a 7 yr old car.
My friend has a 2000 or 2001 electron blue vert with a tan top and it as some kind of defect in it making it look hideous. I mean this guy takes care of his car very well its not from lack of cleaning and if you saw what it looked like you'd know that even neglect wouldnt make it look like it does.
But from he told me GM would not warranty it. I told him just to get another top and this time make sure its black.
That's me - hideous is right. I got a new black top recently and the installer told me that I wasn't waiting long enough to put on the Raggtop protectant after cleaning and I trapped moisture in there causing mildew. I did the Raggtop twice a year and it kept getting worse from the bottom up. She was right, I waited about 3 hours in the sun and it seemed dry, but she said I should have waited two days to really let it dry.
I won't make that mistake again, I hope someone else learns from mine - let the top really dry before you put that protectant on.
I have a 98 Vert and the top looks good, just not as good as the rest of the car.
After a quick search on Fading Tops. I found this post list! Great info guys, I will go out and buy some ragtop and use a lint roller before application.
To answer any questions about why do you drive with the top up, wife drives it to work with top up, after work it's tops down baby, on the way home.
I decided to change my top from black to oak on my '02. Why? Oh I don't know. The oak makes it look more elegant or something. (I'm weird that way) Anyway, I had it done at a shop on Long Island for $1200 including the top. I reused the liner. The work was done by a guy who only does tops and nothing else. Fits good - no leaks - no squeaks - no wind noise. I immediately treated it with ragtop.
I have a 2000 tripple black and the top is a good as new. Of course, I don't ever put the top down unless I have to clean the interior. I only bought it convertible because I like its shape better than the targa. And, yes it has been driven under heavy rains.
I only wished I would have not purchased the Optima battery for Pepboys is not planning to replace only recharge.
