Don't know what year you have. On my '98, there is a very prominent sticker on the oil filler cap that says "Mobil 1 Synthetic 5 W 30. Call me old fashioned but I kinda like to follow the mfgrs recommendation.
Mines going to jiffy lube this weekend. They do not carry the brand stated by gm, so I am taking my own. The only reason I am going there is because they have a pit. My car is to low for me to let someone else put it on a rack (I trust no one.). The dealer won't let me put it on the rack so they don't get my business.

Be careful with Jiffy Lube. I used them twice on mine, and when I found a reputable Vette shop to go to, my mechanic asked who put the cheap, off-brand oil filter on.
Go to a sporting goods store and buy a bag of hockey pucks for about $3, unless you can spare the big bucks for the genuine jacking pucks...
Give them to the mechanic, show him where they go on the car and why, and get it done right.

watch out for cheap filters. I saw one collapse a few weeks ago on a car and boy it really effs things up.
I use Mobil1 and depending on the weather will depend on the weight.
I also use GM Filters. I order a case at a time from FredBeans. Good prices there.
Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5w30. But in my opinion, the Napa Gold filter is the best. It is manufactured by Wix to their specifications. If you have ever seen a cut-away of a Napa Gold next to some of the leading brands such as Fram, GM, Purolator, etc you will understand my pitch. I am not a salesman for Napa. I am a career firefighter and Wix is the only filter used by our Fleet Maintenance. The media in the filter is much greater and the spring is much heavier allowing for greater oil pressures.

The oil cap is advertising. The actual requirement in your owner's manual is for a 5w30 (10w30 over 0F is alternate) that meets GM Standard 4718M. There are many synthetic oils on the market that meet this standard and any one of them meets GMs requirements. Now as to which one is best... that is up for eternal debate.

I am planning on changing from Mobil 1 to AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 and an AMSOIL filter....the wear reduction is supposed to be significant with this oil and it protects like a 20w50 in higher temps (so they say). We will see....there have been reports of oil thickening on some of Oil Forums....

Yup I will watch them like a hawk. As stated in my post, I am taking my preference, Mobil1, napa gold filter. When I first got the car, it had a exhaust problem. I bought the parts and took them to a shop to be installed. I am suprised they did the work because they repeatedly told me I can not be in there. I let them know, that nothing is done to my car that I do not see. I normally do all the maint. on my cars myself. After reading some of the threads on here about jacking, pucks putting dimples in the frame etc. I would rather drive it over a pit.

I worked for NAPA (Never A Part Appropriate ) Many moons ago during my college days. I use the gold filter on all of my vehicles. Never had one problem with them and never had one collapse. Plus I gotta buddy that gets 'em for me cheaper than dirt.
