powder coating requires they heat up the rims to bake on the powder thus weakening them (this is what i have been told) not sure if this is true though maybe someone else knows better

Powdercoating can weaken rims when in the hands of a improperly trained powdercoater. Usually powdercoating requires a 400 degree temp and around 20 minutes for curing. Sometimes things require additional coats of powdercoating just like in painting and then this is what can weaken the metals. The main concern is too not let the temp. exceed 500 degrees. This is what really weakens the metals. I prefer powdercoating over painting, simply because it is a lot tougher finish and can resist chemicals better than paint. If you powdercoat, just make sure you choose someone who is knowledgeable in doing so.

Very good advice. Also make sure the particular powder coat you want or choose is UV resistant. Not all types are. A good powder coater will be aware of this though.

I am getting mine done right now. I am doing wagon wheels for my 99 in Gold I saw them yesterday(fregging awesome). I should have pictures next week I did four wheels for 280.00 That is for two coats the color and a clear. The one guy who said to be careful about UV is right that is why I had to have them cleared.
