Mine has been doing the same thing! Which oil filter would you recommend? When I changed my oil a few weeks ago, I think I used an STP with Mobil 1 full synthetic. Thanks
Does it sound a little like a sewing machine? I read somewhere on here our cars tend to have noisy valves but that its normal. Mine does basically the same thing when its cold.

I have the same noises on my 02. I just put in a half can of Seafoam in the crank and the noise is gone.... Hope this doesnt cause other problems, but for now it seems to be helping

Seafoam is great stuff if used right. It's also a good fuel additive and an awesome air intake cleaner if you get the DeepCreep spray can of Seafoam (All Seafoam products contain the same exact fluid).
I am leary of using it in my oil though becuase it is a great lubricant for breaking rusty bolts andnuts loose. Also because of how well it cleans an intake. Not sure if I want too much in the oil or any at all because of it's solvent properties. changing the oil regualrly works for me.
For those of you that have boats, Seafoamworks great also because it was originally designed for marine applications that spend a lot of time in salt water.

i have a 98 vette and it rattled when iit was cold. i changed to K&N oil filter, and it went away. same thing on my 99 chev 5.3. i was just getting ready to use the top end cleaner on my vette. i'll post the results...........
No fuel/oil additive/cleaner or different oil filter is going to make PISTON SLAP go away. If you used some or all of this stuff and your noise went away it wasn't piston slap.

Here is my 2cents worth
We have been using amsoil in these LS1 motors and for what ever the reason it seems to be making then quiet, and yes it is piston slap.
Also are costumers are telling us that since using amsoil the fuel mileage has also increased.
IF it is piston slap it should go away when the crank starts splashing oil up on the cylinders., no oil filter will stop true piston slap.Once the engine temp. comes up and things start to expand and the oil starts flyin' around the crank case the noise should stop or subside.

Noise what noise I can't hear a thing with the radio on. But I do hear the valve train click with the radio off, no piston slap or rod bearing/mains sound at all. But then mine is a 99
99 Nassau Blue
one final item I don't move the car on start up until full oil pressure is reached.
