Default retrieving c5 from virginia

we need to pick up newly purchased c5 in virginia and bring it home to ohio [about a mile from michigan line] . ohio sells a temporary license plate one could use to drive vehicle home . does anyone know if virginia does this also or if they have some form of 'in transit' papers. thank you

WHen I bought my vert in Florida, the owner was kind enough to let me borrow his tag for the ride back to Va. I had insured the car.

Got home and mailed the tag back to him.

Va has temporary tags for newly purchased vehicles, but that means registering the vehicle in the state. Here's the VA DMV site link, they can probably tell you with a phone call. Best of luck and congrats on the Vette purchase!

If you have the bill of sale and the signed title, you do not need a plate...

However there is a good chance you will get pulled over, but they will let you go if you are transporting the car to a different state to be registered and titled...

Peace

Most of the time you won't be pulled over. I know several people that have driven a couple of days with no plates and have not been bothered.

yeah DMV has a transportation tag but its only a piece of paper that says where you coming from and where you going and what days. cost like $3-5. Got one when I purchased mines because the guy I brought from didnt want to give me his plate.

BAD idea......that can lead to all sorts of problems. If he signed the title over to you at the time of purchase, then the car is legally your's. However you are running tags that belong to someone else. Quite possibly illegal!

Gawd I hope you don't have the same problem we have with our company cars. When I turn in a car (there leased from Lease Plan in Georgia) they have to sit for 30 days while the Ohio BMV has to check the title. Because they tell us it is an out of state car comming in to the state of Ohio. It took the guy that bought my last company car over 30 days to get the title transfered and plates for the car. The Ohio BMV is more screwed up than any state I have ever lived in which includes Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana.

Virginia DMV will issue you a transport certificate for $ 5.00 good for 3 days. Just a piece of paper, but when I bought mine I copied it and placed one copy folded and taped to rear plate area. Drove it for 2 days and had no problems. Went through one check point point too...

This weekend will be 80 degrees in Virginia, good vette driving weather!!
