hello ppl, I'm interested in getting an off road x-pipe for my 02 Z06, I'm thinking of goin with the bassani one, is there a better brand than that, and another question how hard is it to install it, is it better for me to take it to a shop, do I need to tune my car after installing it

Depends on which pipe you get. Bassani makes two pipes, off-road x and an on-road X. The off-road X (what I have) eliminates the cats and the 2nd bank O2 sensors will need to be deprogrammed, which could be done with tuning. Tuning will never hurt you, but you might want to wait till you have a few mods to take full advantage of a tune since most shops charge $350+ for a good dyno tune. With either pipe you have to splice it into the factory H-pipe (or find a good donor H.)
The off-road pipe replaces the front half of the stock H, the on-road replaces the back half. Not hard to install, did mine myself (though the stock manifold bolts broke for me (seemed like factory cross-thread.)

hey i mean im no mechanic but why waste the money on just the mid pipe i would just get a long tube set up and from what ive heard no cats is only good with high horsepower cars?
I want to get the off road x, I dont want to do headers cause I dont want to void my warranty, I am goin to do headers but just not now, I want to get rid of the cats for now, I was hoping to find and x that bolts on to the stock headers and replaces the cats and all it is just a bolt on x-pipe
thanx steve, I'm hoping you got info on that
I don't think there is a full X-pipe replacement. I've read that you can get both of the Bassani pipes and splice them together for a double-x, and have just one replacement piece. Might see if your local perfomance shop has a spare stock-H laying around.
I think I picked up ~13 rwhp with mine. Good $/HP gain for only $150 part (I bought mine used.) The sound improvement alone is fantastic! The flip side is that it makes it hard to spend well over $1k for headers for what will likely be less than 10 rwhp gain over what I have now.

hey man im pretty sure that no cats voids warranty but longtubes with high flow cats dont as long as there 50 state legal. i know cause i asked a vette tech because i have a 7yr 70,000 mile warranty and i want longtubes and thats what he said?
I can't imagine a shop in California would be willing to take your cats off. It's a big deal here in Missouri, and we don't even have emmissions testing (except STL).
A shop could be susceptible to a large, large fine. I wouldn't be surprised that in Kalifornia that they would strap you to a giant redwood and let a bear have its way with you.
Your gains, with or without headers, will be minimal...like maybe 5 rwhp. Your money and time might be spent better elsewhere.
Best bet is to ask your dealer, most are fine with longtubes that have cats, alot of dealers wont work on cars with an off road set up. By the time you spend the money to buy the x-pipe plus get a donor pipe (so you can save your original set up) have it welded together/installed you could spend a little bit more and get a set of longtubes which will net you the most HP and sound.
I talked to the service manager at B&B in Mesa Az just last week about long tube headers, and he said that's no problem as far as the warranty is concerned. (I have a GMPP aftermarket warranty too) He said the only concern would be with emissions and setting codes. Running with no cats requires editing out codes, or adding O2 sims, both of which he said are a no no as far as GMPP is concerned. They don't have to be stock cats either, as long as no codes are set.
