Default Changing oil this weekend

The weather here on Long Island is supposed to be in the 60's this weekend so i've decided to change my oil for the first time. i'm all set but i have 1 questions - does anyone fill their oil filter with oil before installing? just wondering i know gravity will do that anyway once i fill the baby up.

I always prime my filter, about half way when changing it...

It's always a good idea to do that. Lets the oil pressure come up a few seconds quicker.

The toatal amount of oil needed to change does not change. You are just adding saying a half of a quart to the oil filter, The remaining would be added to the oil pan.

Just a friendly reminder... never trust a hydraulic jack alone- use a jack stand! Also, I hope you have better luck than I did when I did my first oil change. Just by coincidence I guess, my oil pressure sensor went after I did the oil change. So when I started up my car for the first time after the change- BING 130 lbs of oil pressure. I freaked out before I checked in here to find out it is VERY common for the sensor to fail. Good Luck- and enjoy!

It's still a 6.5 qt (not oz) fill, but that includes what you pour into the filter before installing it. In other words, you will use a total of 6.5 qts to do the oil change.

Always. Also found the driving a small nail in the bottom of the old oil filter to let it drain before removing it helps to keep from making a mess.
