Default Ash Tray Door Question

04 coupe: Looking at my ash tray door in the closed position, there is a little rectangular piece of soft black rubber on the face of the door in the upper right corner. It is maybe 1/4" high and about 1/2" wide. Is that supposed to be there? What is it for?

Looks like it is just stuck on and could be pulled off, but I didn't want to remove it if it serves some purpose.

Not on mine. Maybe someone had something there before you bought it. Not sure.

I was wondering if it was maybe a stop, or bumper, that is supposed to be back inside somewhere for when the door is open, and it maybe came loose and stuck to the door.

Seems like it is on there too perfectly straight and square to be an accident though.

I'm wondering if the previous owner had something attached or sitting there. Guess I'll just pull it off then. It's no big deal being there, but just looks strange and out of place. Thanks for the replies.

Had the same thing on my 02 Vert. Removed it without causing any rattles. Supposed it to be an anti-rattle bumper that transferred from its intended position behind the door bezel.

Also, didn't notice any appreciable decline in performance when removed.

My 2001 had the same little piece of foam stuck to the door. I did not know what it was for, and ended up removing it.

Ah ha, just as I suspected. Do you know if it was designed to prevent rattles in the open or closed position. I'm thinking about trying to put it back where it belongs. I doubt mine will ever be open much.

What did you do with yours when you removed it? I could always use an addtional 6 1/2 hp. Let's see, how many of these things would I need to come up to an LS7?

If you did not pay the Corvette Tax for this you are ineligible for any additional enhancements of RWHP
