Default Buying a New Vette!

So, i'm heading out to Test drive and hopefully buy a 1997 Corvette tomorrow. Its got the removeable glass top & CD-Player, 6 spd. 68k Miles is a little higher than i woulda liked, but still below average for that year i guess.

I just wanted to pop in and say hi to the folks on the board, i'm coming from the Club3g.com board (03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS owner)

I just wanted to get some opinions from people, like what you all think is a fair price for that year, or what some common problem areas are and/or things i should look out for with this car that could be signs of a future or coming problem.

Glad to be joining this community and looking forward to driving my Vette!

-Dan

- check for leaking battery and all body panels are in place smoothly (to see if it has been in a major accident)

- others will chime in about the M6, I got an A4 - so I don't know how you could see if the clutch is OK

- wear on seat bolsters

- tire tread

(last two are more for lowering price)

I would think between 15 and 18K would be a good price, depending on condition and suspension package.

I have been on Club3G before, one of my buddies is an Eclipse enthusiast - last time I was on there a couple of years ago - there was some serious hot chick explicit posting on there - i loved it

Good luck

There is a A LOT of good info in this thread, don't let it scare you..not every C5 of course has all these, or even some of these things wrong.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...7&forum_id=103

The biggest thing I would check for is the Column Lock issue (see above thread)

Good luck and Welcome

Welcome! You're going to love the C5. You'll hear lots of opinions about what the car is worth, but just keep your head and make sure it's the right car for you (color, options, etc.) at the right price. If the one you're looking at tomorrow leaves you a little unsure, don't be afraid to pass -- there are lots of good clean C5s out there.

For what it's worth, I'd guess the car you described is about a $17-19,000 car (private party) assuming it's in very good condition and doesn't need anything major (like tires!).

Read the sticky up top for lots of info on common issues and things to look for.

Again, welcome. C5s –*and the people who obsess over them –*are great!

That car would be 17 to 18K around here.

Welcome. In December I bought my 97 auto with about the same miles. I paid 16,300 for it but it needed a set of tires. I would talk to the previous owner and see if he/she had any problems with it. Take it to a good mechanic to look it over. Do a lot of research!
