Starting to look at the possibility of getting a C5 conv. I know there was a vendor change for tops sometime during the run, but I don't know when. Can anyone tell me when the change was, and the benefits? I believe the rear window might have got a little bigger, the side pillars a little smaller, and the top sealed better?
Also, what year did the HUD become standard instead of optional?

the top was changed from a 3 layer top to 5 layers, other than that there are no other differences.

The visability is surprisingly good in the C5 convertible with the top up. The large rear window and side windows provide a good view but the exterior mirrors are unsized on all C5s. Just my .02
I'm still thinking that the HUD was standard in '04 in all the cars as when the '05 came out, it went backwards and became an option again. Could be wrong. Anyway, thanks for all the answers on the top, as I'm leaning towards a conv. and the last two I've looked at were '01's.

You are. 1SB options listed in the Corvette Black Book for the 2004 Corvette: "1SB coupe and convertible equipment group included head-up display, power-telescopic steering column, auto-dimming mirrors, memory package and twilight sentinel." The 1SB option group was $1200.
Okay. So the HUD has always been an option. I wish all the listings showed whether the car had it or not. I'm getting really good at spotting the display in the dash or the slider near the steering wheel just to see if the car I'm interested in has it or not.
Request the RPO codes for cars you are looking at... RPO for the HUD is UV6
Speaking of which, where are the RPO codes located on a C5? The one I looked at this weekend didn't have one under the console lid (where mine is). I thought they were there on the C5's as well?
