Default key fob loosing memory help?

i just baught my 99 vette and the fob didnt work when i got it. so i baught a battery, pressed the lock and unlock until it worked and it would work for a few minutes when the passive switch was off and didnt work at all when the passive switch was on. am i not re-syncing it right or is my key fob defective? also there is a slight rattle in the actual computer board, i took it apart and there is somehtin rattleing in there. but it seems that if that would cause it to not work it wouldnt workl at all. any suggestions?

I have a similar issue with one for my 97...I thought it was the battery but when I changed the battery and re-synched it with the car it works the first time, but then it does not (not even the passive) so I am too curious as to what to do...my other one works fine and I have two programmed into the car using the DIC.

The rattle you hear is the passive feature...there is a little switch in them that causes it to trigger by movement. That is normal.

a lot of posts and threads have addressed this issue .
if the battery replacement did not cure the problem , then unfortunately it's time to replace the FOB ,like I did , and buy new if you can , a bit pricey for the 97 - 99 , but that will fix your problem .
