Or is it just me? The grinding "marbles in a can" sound around 1K rpms. It goes away after 1k rpms and sometimes you cant hear it depending on how fast you take your speed up. Also, can someone explain why it does this
Thanks,
Tony
It drives me nuts. I hate rattles/noises/or anything like that.
I believe it's the throwout bearing making the noise and has something to do with the transmission being mounted in the rear. Do a search on "drivetrain noise" and you'll find everything you ever want to know about this issue. I find it very strange that GM would put a design into production with that sort of business going on.
ive heard here that it is often times the stock h-pipe. many have replaced this with a xpipe and the problem has gone away. If you still have a warranty, see if gm will fix it, or just get an xpipe.

It is just a noise inherent in the 6-speed tranny. All of them do it to some extent - I just raise the rpms a little bit and then take off. Seems to cure the marble sound.
It's the tranny on the MN6 cars (T56) my C5, and my 99Z28 do it. It's the output shaft spinning with no, or very little load on it... it does it also if you shut your car off in Neutral with the clutch out...
just take off faster, or give it some more gas so your RPM's are not so low and you will not hear it
also, if you shut your car off in Neutral, hold the clutch down and you won't hear the sound.
some B&B Bullets make all the creaking, popping, squeeking, squeeling and anything else you can think of (passenger bitching, etc) go away!! Or else, it hides it very well anyway!!
