Default Z06 Mod Help

I want to do my first mod on my Corvette. I have a 2004 Z06 and I’d like to help it breathe a little better. I was thinking about adding the following;

Donaldson Blackwing Cold Air Induction System,
Carbon Fiber Power Duct Air Bridge
Larger throttle body.

I friend of mine told me my Z06 won’t benefit much from this mod because it already comes with most of this just by Chevrolet.

Does anyone know what size throttle body a 2004 LS6 motor come stock with?

Your help and comments are greatly appreciated.

Bob

The Blackwing or any other CAI will help - C5's like it. Save your money on the TB or MAF until you get heads and/or cam.

I've lost power with having too big of a TB or MAF when all other components were stock.

Wait until you have a cam swap before changing the TB. I am still running the stock LS6 manifold and a ported TB on my Z06. I cannot justify the cost for a FAST 90/90 setup right now just to gain about 10 rwhp.

go with the vararam, i had the halltech stinger air intake, did'nt notice much difference on my z06. You WILL notice the difference w/ the vararam vr2b, i also installed a granetteli MAF, added a little bit more flow.

To answer your TB question I believe the LS6 TB is 80 mm bore, the LS1 is 75 mm.

The Blackwing and K&N are two of the easiest to install.

The Vararam probably makes the most power, but is tougher to install.

The new Callaway Honker (terrible name, great product) comes close to the Vararam in power and is easier to install. I was at Callaways shop a couple of weeks ago and took a close look at the Honker. Its a nicely made high quality component.

Hope this helps.

The '04 Z06 already runs very lean. Altering the air flow has caused many '04 Z06's to throw codes.
Good luck.

I'd do longtubes instead of a throttle body. This spring I plan on taking a trip down to Tbyrne and doing just that, along with a dyno tune

Big time. I just did a FAST 90 and LS2 TB on my H/C car and gained maybe 10 HP. Not worth the $ and a good ported LS6/1 TB by NW is the best fealing TB out there IMO (very fast response).

CAI will help a stock car and a Black WIngs is easy and you should feal a gain. A Vararam is a PIA (been there too) but well worth the gains. You might want to look for a Haltach Tric as I would go that way if I had to do it again. A CF air bridge looks great but there are realy no gains there. A TB on a stock car will probably gain very little too.

BLUFF CAI and a CF Air Bridge are easy DIY, look great and the MOD bug will have it's first bite. Then look out You can't stop. Good luck brother!
Dave
PS then you will need long tubes, muffler, clutch, sticky tires...

How big is your cam in your car and how hard are you turning it?

I would do a VARARAM and the LGM new street heads or KOOKS 1 3/4 set up with x-pipe, high flow cats, a dyno tune and an aggessive cat back exhaust, unless you want to keep the somewhat tame sound of the stock Z06 exhasut (and you should pickup about 25rwhp and be making around 380 rwhp. Also, I would throw in a 3.90 gear or maybe even 4.10 (been there done that on a Z ) and call it a day as you wil have one SUPER FAST bolt on Z that still is 100% reliable and the gears will feel like you picked up an extra 50 HP easy! Late on if that is not enuff put in a G5X3 cam on a 114 lsa and you will be making power in the 425 to 430 rwhp range and the car will be a true BEAST (even with its stock heads still being used!)
