Since last year when I joined this forum I heard about wipers going crazy - shooting fluid everywhere, etc from time to time. Problem usually is with the springs in the wiper control stalk or the wiper fluid motor. Just curious how widespread this is.
Happen to me today - Wipers started by themselves when I turned the car ('02) on and the wiper fluid began to spray and wouldn't turn off so I turned the car off.
When I restarted, the spraying had stopped but I could hear the Wiper Fluid motor running constantly as long as the car was on. Tried my wipers and no fluid came out. Checked fluid and refilled back to the top. Retried and no fluid would come out. Drove down to the Chevy dealer and made an appointment for Monday. Will be my first dealer visit and extended warranty use. On the way home - still was hearing the fluid motor running so I pushed the wiper fluid button on the end of the stalk. Did not help. Motor kept running. No fluid came out.
About a minute later I had a flying projectile in the car.
The round wiper button at the end of the stalk (on the right side of the steering wheel) came flying out by itself and shot across my car hitting the window (good thing the window was up or I would have lost it) before falling under the passenger seat. Luckily I didn't have a passenger or they might have got hit in the face/eye. The two springs popped out too.
Now my windshield wipers are going constantly and I can hear the wiper fluid motor still on whenever the car is running -no wiper fluid coming out .
Just curious exactly how many others have had this problem with windshield wipers/fluid motor/wiper fluid button and what year vettes..
Have the same problem on my 02. Goes in tomorrow to get the stalk replaced. My wiper fluid pump just kept running. Came on all by itself when I was out driving. Ended up pulling the fuse for it so my motor would burn out. Fuse is under the passenger toe board. Around $300 to get it replaced.
Same here. I tested them when I bought the car a year ago but I never drive it in rain so they never get used. Luckily I knew why they were going crazy when I started the car as I remembered reading about the problem in this forum.

Local Chevy dealer got me in a couple of days earlier than planned. Was around $311 (parts/labor) to replace the wiper switch. Warranty Direct picked up the entire tab
My first experience with Warranty Direct and it was so easy and painless.
Also my first experience with my local Chevy dealer and I couldn't be happier. Unlike every other dealer I've been to with other cars, who stick the finished car into tight parking spaces next to other cars, - the Chevy dealer parked the Vette at an angle to take up two parking spaces so it wouldn't get door dinged.
I have actually used my wipers more by mistake than to wipe the raindrops from the windshield. I keep bumping the lever by accident. It is sticking out in a spot that no other car I have owned ever did! I think that if it wre a tad bit smaller.........
