Default To Align or not to align

I have just over 10,000 miles on my 04 Z and the inside edges of the front tires are almost worn out. I made an alignment appointment for Saturday at a local tire shop, but in reading some of the threads on here, it sounds like the inside front tire wear may actually be normal. I have one track day and about 7 autocrosses on them and the stock alignment from the factory. Should I get it aligned, or is the tire wear normal? The rear tires are fine. Thanks.

Hi JADVette94 -

I have a 2002 Z06 and a 1999 coupe -

Neither of them wear the tires on the fronts abnormally.

I would have it aligned.

The rears on our cars seem to wear out very quickly, though.

best regards -

It's hard to say without seeing the tires. But the Z06 stock alignment does result in faster wear on the insides of the front tires. Not so much that the middle of the tire has lots of tread while the insides are corded. But the uneven wear is noticeable.

It's a good idea to align periodically anyway though.

Ciao,

Rick

Here is a previous thread on the same topic. Hopefully you will find some good, helpful info in it.

I have the opposite problem, the OUTSIDES of my front tires are abnormally worn at 11,800 miles...

However this is probably due to the fact that I take every corner like I'm on a racetrack! Well not every corner but my normal commute involves a totally kickass onramp which has 2 sharp rights and a sharp left that I can take at 90-100mph and I also hit a few other really nice curves both directions.

I can definitely see having to replace my tires at around 16,000 miles...just a shame that the middle/insides will be fine and the outsides will be worn through the tread

On my 03 Z06, I had the problem of the inside edges wearing. The OEM tires lasted 13K miles. I replaced them with PS2s...I doubt that these will last 13K miles based on 6K miles.
