Default 2004 Z06 Commemorative

Just picked up my new used Z06 Z16. 4800 miles, looks and drives like new. Live in Orange County and would like to attend local events. New to the forum so any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sign up and join up.......it's a great club...........just got my Z16 3 weeks ago and I am having a hard time keeping it in the garage. I think mine is possessed.....it sends me mental messages saying "drive me, drive me"....and if you don't comply......some part will break so for the good of your car and your mental health......................drive it.

Welcome!

There's always the Monarch Beach or Crystal Cove gatherings, as well as the donut place up in Costa Mesa (or is it Huntington Beach?). There are often a few folks hanging out at either one.

Keep your eyes open for any cruises up in the Santa Monica mountains too, as we will caravan up for the day. In fact, I think it's time for another one!

There's also a gathering up in Lone Pine coming up. Check that out, it should be a blast.

Thanks,
So, from LA, LA land, think about a REALLY nice trip to demonstrate "fun with a Z06".
Out I-10 through Palm Springs through Quartzsite, AZ. Get off the freeway just east of there,
and take U.S 60 toward PHX to catch AZ 89 to Congress and points north to Prescott. Just DON'T go to PHX.

This takes you up "Yarnell Hill", (D & A in Yarnell has good burgers/sandwiches, and Amber Bock drafts - say hi), then across the valley to Wilhoit and past the Burro Inn in "Nowhere, AZ". Yes, this is real (smile, and the locals are friendly - say hi). And up "White Spar" to Prescott. Best slow speed mountain twisties around. Drive around the Courthouse Square in Prescott. The west side is Whiskey Row. "The Palace" used to be a hangout for Wyatt Earp and Barry Goldwater. Food is marginal, but the ambience can't be beat. Or, have a brew on the balcony at the upstairs "Jersey Lilly's" bar overlooking the square. The owner is usually there, so say hi to Tommy for me. Then, AZ 89A up and over Mingus Mt. to Jerome. In Jerome, buy the T-shirt that says "I survived 158 turns in 12 miles on the way to Jerome". And then down to Cottonwood, and over to Sedona. And, then up Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff.

You have just done the major (and fun) part of GM's "ride development circuit" which starts at the Desert Proving Ground in Mesa (east side of PHX).

If you have a lady to share the joy, I recommend staying at the "Grand Hotel" in Jerome.
It's the old mining town hospital "converted". Great views all the way across the valley to Sedona.
It makes the ladies all warm and fuzzy and "cuddly". Works for me too.

Eat at their "Asylum" resturant on their balcony with the view. It's a bit pricey, but great food and ambience.
Or, eat at the "Ghost" burger spot just down the street. More than burgers. Good food/beer. Ask for the balcony seating.

Or, the "Surgeon's House B & B" in Jerome has the "same effect".

Your lady will return the value of your money "many times over".

And, if you don't have the time to reverse the trip (you WILL want to),
whip home on I-40 through Kingman and Needles, and down the hill to San Berdoo.

If you do reverse the trip, leave Prescott on Iron Springs Road through Skull Valley to Kirkland instead of AZ89. From the southwest corner of the Courthouse Square go north on Montezuma Steet which becomes Whipple Street which becomes Iron Springs Road at the Med. Center. Don't ask. I do not know "why".

The curves on the Iron Springs Road ridges are much more "open" and swinging than "White Spar", but kinda fun. The run from Skull Valley (it's an little bitty town) to Kirkland (it's smaller than Skull Valley) through the "river" canyson is tight and fun. Stop at the Kirkland Steak House/Bar, and say hi to the folks. They have a great 3 piece band on Fri/Sat. Say hi to Dave the guitar player. Steaks are pricey. Don't let the owner start talking to you, especially if he has a drink in his hand. Oops, I'm sorry, he ALWAYS has a drink in his hand. He does all the steaks, doing a REALLY great job, even with "his permanent condition". They do have rooms for rent if it suits "your fancy". Bathrooms down the hall. All this works fine if "you've been there a bit long". Ask to see "the ghost outline" on the wall next to the bandstand. Tell the barmaid "Dave's friends" mentioned it. She's a bit grumpy, but you would be too if you worked every night of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

All this is LIVING. Living LARGE. Z06 STYLE.
I'm going die, but I'll never have to say on my deathbed, "Damn, I wished I woulda . . . "

Congrats on the cherry Z16.

Join us next Sunday (26th) at the Block of Orange. It's called the C6 Roundup, but it has grown into an all generation gathering.

GREAT Write up....I did this trip (sort of ) from Tucson and I forgot how terrified my woman was when her side of the car was nearest the guardrail. She kept moving closer....and closer. It's been many years since I did that trip and I think the Z16 is just begging me to test it out on those turns. And I love your last line.......
