Default Paint Color Code

Can anyone tell me how I determine my paint color code? The MSRP sticker does not specifically say so. I have a 2001 Magnetic Red. Can I tell by the options sticker? If so, which numbers am I looking for?

Thanks.

WA-379E is the paint code for Mag Red II.

86U is the color option (RPO) code.

The paint code is located inside the glovebox door.

I just looked at the chart referenced above, and another forum member and I are a bit confused about something. He and I both have Magnetic Reds, mine is an 01, and his is a 99. Our paint codes are different, however, and according to the chart, there seems to be another red that was not available in my year.

I thought I heard something about there being a Magnetic Red and a Magnetic Red II, but are these just different names for the same color? The reason we need to know is because we want to be sure my factory colored body side moldings will match his car. The code at the bottom of my RPO sticker is 379E, and his is 127B.

We don't know if we should rely strictly on the chart, because the names of the colors on the chart don't seem to "jive" to begin with.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mag Red I was used in 99 and part of 2000.

Mag Red II was phased in during 2000, and then used exclusively in later years. Since yours is an 01, you have Mag Red II.

Although they shared the 86U RPO code, they were not the same color, hence the difference in paint code #'s.

Bottom line is your BSM's will not match his car.

Yea, what he said....

You do have the Mag Red II.

Originally the factory shot your paint as a tri-color with a copper base then color, then candy tint in the clear coats. When you sand the clear, you'll notice the residue has a pink tint.

The products you will buy will have a base color over which you will shoot a red tint, then clear. Make sure anyone you use to paint has experience with candy colors as too much or too little tint matters in the match up.
