Default Hardend output shaft?

Going to have my clutch done, while there should I change the output shaft? If I dont is it a bad idea to run drag radials at the track?

i had mine put in just a few weeks ago! My car is bone stock so I really didn't NEED it but I figured I might as well get it put in while they were in there. Its a good idea in my opinion.

Go for both and throw a DTE brace on it while you are at it. All it takes is wheel hop once... Go for it

I need this upgrade too. Can anyone share what they've paid for this in labor?

i only put the longer shaft in, i heard from many people that it is very rare to break the shorter shaft. I should have put the DTE brace in, but I didn't. I would also recommened the brace to help save your rear end.

So I take it the longer output shaft is the left one?

The drivers side is the one that breaks most of the time.

For those of you that are asking, I have a guy here in the St. Louis area that is installing my Textralia Clutch Kit, Left Output Shaft, DTE brace and replacing the syncro's and shift forks in my tranny for $1000.00.

Thanks. I just got quoted $700 - $800 for labor replacing the output shaft only so it sounds like you're getting a great deal.

I had 500+ passes in two C5Z06s and never broke anything.

At stock and near-stock power levels the car is engineer to withstand launches with sticky tires on a prepped surface.

In these conditions what causes to rear to break are two driver errors:

(1) trying to spin heated or cold, dry tires in the thick, sticky rubber forward of the water box before the line.

(2) power shifting the 1-2 inducing wheel hop and then staying on the throttle instead of lifting.

If you can avoid those two driver errors, you don't need a harden rear, provides you keep your power under 400 rwhp.

Opinions vary.

Default Question for Ranger

Good stuff, thanks man!

Back to drag launches and a stock car...

Assuming stock horsepower levels, stock rear, and stock clutch. Were your C5 Z06's all stock and turning 60's in the 1.7's w. sticky tires? And doing it without issue?

THanks!

Zero breakage on my Z06s.

With BFGs on the 2002, the majority of the 60' were low 1.7X. About 10% were mid-high 1.6x. Launch rpms were 3600-4200, depending on conditions. Only issue is too much clutch slip (e.g. slow release) can glaze the clutch, but that cures with 60-90 minutes of cool down. I glazed the clutch twice in 500 passes.
