I have a 02 C5 and all of a sudden there’s a problem when closing the driver side door. The black mechanism on the very bottom of the side of the door makes a horrible grinding noise when closing the door. There’s a spring that contracts a little when closing but mine does not contract anymore unlike the passenger side. It does not look like its off center in anyway. I tried liquid wrench with no luck. There is a screw (more like retaining bolt with a odd thread) on it but I didn’t want to mess with it until I have some more info. Any ideas? Thanks.
Naturally, due to use, the passenger side mechanism would wear quicker. If the spring were bent in any way (due to use) then it would be harder to retract and cause unwanted friction and make a noise. That’s the only theory I can come up with. Any thoughts?
