At 2am last week my 98's horn started blasting away for no reason. It wasn't the periodic type honking associated with the security system, just a steady wailing. Woke all the neighbors and took me several minutes to stop. I had to pull the horn's fuse in the fusebox under the hood.
I had the local service station look it over. They took apart the steering column, but they couldn't find the source of the short. They said they could replace the steering wheel which of course includes the air bag, but that would cost me close to $1000.
Is this a common problem and is there a simple and cheap solution?
This same thing happened with me on my '78 anniversary vette. maybe some rubbing where it shouldnt have. randomly go off cruising down the street or when i started up my car at work. i had to unplugged it for good. this isnt like the c5 at all but just sharing my experience with an out of control horn.
