I have a 2000 navy metallic blue coupe with the stock bose system and 12 cd changer and have tried to burn some music from itunes and my ipod to a cdr and can't get any music to play from my car.... any suggestions or will the 2000 model changers just not play cdr? Any advice?
Mine works fine with a CDR. It will not, however, read a CDR/W. Also, make sure the music you are burning is a .WAV file. The stock 12 disc changer won't play MP3's or anything like that.
If you use Winders Media Palyer (I'm in Georgia...it's Winders here) burn your play list as an audio file. It automatically converts from MP3 or whatever into a .WAV file that the cd player can read. It's the same process for jsut about every other burning software.
what do you mean finalize???? i feel dumb asking this but have never heard this terminology before... then again I am no expert ....
Finalizing the CD closes it out so that it can't be written to anymore. It also puts a tag on there to tell where to pick up the first track, etc. It's just info for the CD player. Most programs will ask if you want to CLOSE the CD. This is finalizing it. You can also set them up to do it automatically through the settings options on most, too. I've only seen high end DJ style players able to play a non-closed cd. Your car's disc changer is not in this category.
I can't play CDRs in my 2000 12 disk CD changer either. As I recall, I did finalize them when I burned them. However, they do play in the CD player in the dash. Go figure.
My 1999 with the 12 disc changer is currently loaded with CDRs. Sometimes it'll give me a fit after I reload the magazine but if I eject it and put it back in, it works like a charm!
They work in GM Factory CD player in my 01 chevy truck and my wifes GM car, same factory GM radio. Now I dunno about the changers though. Yeah use CDR's not the rewritable rw's. I use Nero to burn my cd's though and have never had a problem, roxio easy cd creator also works fine as does windows media player. I've burned mp3's with them all but you need to make sure you do an audio disk and not a data disk if that option is available. Audio will change the format to a wav which your player can read.
O.K. I learned all of this from my college days as a Nudie bar, dance club, and Radio DJ.
Most of the newer cd players will accept CDR and will have trouble with CDRW. I have found this to be the case since the ability to burn from a PC became common.
All cd's have to be burned in an audio (.WAV) format unless the cd player specifies that it can play another format such as MP3. Nothing else will work unless you are a software and electrical genius with too much time on your hands. Burning from the IPOD to the disc will not work unless your program (iTunes I suspect) converts the files to the .WAV file automatically. My wife's iTunes and IPOD do not do this unless you set it up in the options to do so.
The CD players and changers that come stock in the vettes are not on the high end of the quality spectrum. They do require that at CDR be finalized or closed. Nothing can be written to a CDR again after it is finalized/closed. Without this, the player won't be able to tell where to the tags on the tracks are. This means it doesn't know where to start and stop reading. It WILL NOT work unless the cd is closed.
Lastly, try using a CDR with a blue-ish or purple-ish coloring. these work the best even with hair line scratches and swirl marks. For some reason, the shiny silver colored CDRs have more problems being read when they have the slightest scratch in them. Yes, I know CD's from the store msotly have silver backs but they use a different grade of material.
My CDRs play fine in the radio itself. I do have problems with some of them in the changer. They all play in the changer but some sound scratchy or have a static type sound in the background. Put that same disk in the dash unit and sound is crystal clear. Tried slowing down the burning / writing process and also different types of media. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Can't seem to figure out what the magic setting or fix is.

Bingo! I have same issues. I do believe it is setup related and sucess is possible. I've never taken the time to trial test each setting or speed, but I have heard that slower the burn the less likely the scratchies.
