I have an '04. I'm not quite sure what sort of answer you are looking for -- I'm not quite up on electrical and mechanical things, but on my '04, there is a button on the console that will turn off the active handling (otherwise it is always on). The way I understand it is when you get in some water or something else that is slick and the tires spin (obviously there would be no other reason why they would spin ) the brakes are applied to stop that particular tire from spinning - you can feel the pull from the driver seat.
As far as the HUD, it is simply a display that you can see on the windshield. It can be turned off, but I do not find that it is annoying (some do). How it works is beyond me, it is just there.
