Default Auto Trans Fluid Change Frequency

I can’t believe the weak response I got from this TREAD!! WTF, Is this classified info???? Here I go again!!!

How often do you guys with A4s change the auto transmission fluid and filter? I have about 42,000 miles on my ’01 and I guessing its never been changed.

If you have the owners book I think it is 45000 or 24 months....its not much money and you know that you dont have to worry...

I am in the same boat. Taz is right at 40K. I don't see any receipts for tranny fluid cahnges in the folder I got.

Another question:

Is the tranny fluid synthetic? If not, does anybody have experience with changing to synthetic?

My Q45 has synthetic oil, tranny, and rearend lube.

I change my filter and fluid once a year.. That has equated to
about every 15,000 miles when it was a daily driver. I will still change
it once a year even though it only gets about 5k per year now.
An ounce of prevention..........

In this day and age changing slushbox trans fluids is a total waste of time and money. (stock street driven cars)

In some cases changing trans fluid in high mileage slushboxs will cause the bands to slip, thus requiring a rebuild.

If I wanted to see what was listed in the OM I would have looked in the OM. I want to see what other A4 owners are doing or not doing!

Mine had 68,000 when we changed the fluid. We had to pull everything out after the flex plate exploded. Good time to change the fluids. Tranny was sliping after we got her back together.

Oh my. Sounds like somebody needs a

On a related note... I am not qualified to answer your question as I haven't changed mine yet. None of my C5's have enough miles to qualify (per the OM).

I have the M6, but on my other cars all automatics I usually change the tranny fluid every 36,000 miles. JMO. Changing sooner is better than later in my opinion.

Actually, I decided NOT to change the Auto Trans Fluid. The replies from TCW and JeepTJ along with what I have read in the OM have convinced me to leave well enough alone. Last thing I want to do is a trans fluid change which may cause the bands to slip….which will lead to a rebuild. The car is running perfect so why look for trouble….if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
