Opinions on tintiing? Going to Reno this year and am planning on
tinting soon. Legal here is 35 I believe, will it make a difference
in cabin temps, and does it affect vision ? I know it will save the
carpet and leather.
I have 20% on the rear glass (illegal in VA) and I'm going to put 20% on the side windows before summer. It makes a difference!
If you have a coupe, the rear glass can be a bitch. Find a good tint shop that has some experience with difficult shape windows. And then there's those damn dots.............
I was the same way, wasn't sure about tinting because I had never done it before. Tinted my Vette and have since tinted my other two vehicles. Would not have a car that was not tinted, in Texas anyway or southern states.
Just talked to a man on Friday at Sun Guard about having all three of my vettes done. Taking two of them to him next week and the thrid one in twwo weeks. I'm also thinking about having my truck done. I'm going with 35% on all of them Ky law

I am in California where you pretty much can't tint the sides at all (70% they say), but you can paint the back black if you want - as long as you have two side mirrors. My Vette has stock windows, but my 98 Camaro had 28% all the way around except for the windshield which was 52%. I never got bothered by the cops, but my wife got two fix-it tickets in the 6-7 times she drove the car. Guess I was very lucky for three years.
This site is out of date for Georgia in that, while the 32% figure is correct, a new law passed in 2005 now lets the cops ticket OUT-OF-STATE vehicles for not complying with that figure.

What are we supposed to do, stop at the state line and scrape off the window tint? No way can they enforce that stupid law.
unless you want to own a Vette to be seen. I like the look, see my pics. It does keep the interior a little cooler. I don't care if strangers see me or not.
I have never been pulled over for the dark tint, maybe because I keep the beast looking brand new and shiny.
Full tint is the only way to go, I have 20% all around and the full windshield done in 35%......I have a medical waiver to get around the laws in VA, even though it is a little darker than its supposed to, I have never had a problem....
My '98 was tinted by the PO. I stopped by a tinting place and they measured it at about 25% or 28%. I found it to be fine during the day, but I felt it made the car dangerous to drive at night as I had a very hard time seeing if anything was beside me.

I would love to see the wording in that law, because in my opinion it is completely unenforcable! How can they cite you for a jurisdictional violation that doesn't even apply to your vehicle?
I suspect it's along the lines of the old school speed traps in the small towns. They write you up knowing if you are from out of state it's unlikely you will come back to fight it, so you just pay it.
I thought the south was trying to become part of the 21st century?
