On the highway last night a black '01 or '02 Z06 came along side me (really nice, lowered with borla exaust) and gracefully passed on my left. I downshifted into fourth and slowly passed him just so he could hear my borla too, both of us never going above 80 or so. This was the first time I've ever even seen another corvette on my side of the highway by the way. But, knowing how fast these cars are we resisted racing and here's the cool part: Not a mile after all of this two state troopers were shooting radar!
So, moral of the story is, resisting a street race can be really rewarding! We both would have gotten screwed!!
I agree it can be hard not to take the bait... It seems everyone has to challenge the vette. We just can't take it as a challenge.
I've told all my kids this is a car that I could never have survived with in my 20's. I'd have no license, family or future as my self control wasn't all that strong back then in my early years.
I've told my wife that I'll get rid of the vette "if" I ever get a ticket. So far, I still have the vette!! BTW: I don't lie to her either...
I drive it fast when I want to whenever I can. On a track, road race or in a private location but on the streets leads to nothing but trouble. If you can get in trouble on the road, I'll find a way to be there...
