I am about to order a air intake set up and was wondering what you guys would recomend. I have a 2002 ZO6 on order which should be delivered by 9/15/02 the build date is 8/20/02. I am torn between getting the Donaldson or the Vortex-I cannot justify the Haltech as i own a fab shop and could make my own set up much cheaper-I'm not saying the Haltech isn't good it looks awesome but I want the best bang for the buck. Thanks
You can't really go wrong with either. I chose the Donaldson primarily based on looks (I couldn't justify the $ for the Haltech either). It does appear to have a larger filter element but I don't know if that makes any difference, especially on a basically stock engine.
Good luck with whichever you choose and the new Z06. :D
The best performers are the Cold Air Intakes.....so if you get the Donaldson you need to get a cold air cover too, which makes it more expensive than the Vortex..
I went with the Vortex and am very happy with it. As far as appearance, the real carbon fiber box or the simulated carbon fiber box both look great. If you want to do it up right, also get the carbon fiber widemouth airbridge from LAPD. It really smoothed out the idle on my 01 Z06 and I suspect added a few hp. I'll find out next time I dyno.

THis is a common misconception. The Z06 already comes with a cold air system - thats what the screens on the front are covering up.
I have had the Vortex in my Coupe and the Donaldson in the Z06. Both give about equal performance. The Donaldson is 100 times easier to install and you can return the car to stock. You can not return a car with the Vortex back to stock unless you go buy a new radiator shroud.
I was just looking at the Z06 brochure I have and it has one of those drawings that "show thru" to different parts of the car. The picture shows a duct connected to those front inlets that are directed to the front brakes. Mine doesn't have those. Whazzup with that?

As someone before me said, this isn't true. I have the Donaldson on my Z06 and did NOT get a cover for it (nor did I cut the shroud). The throttle response improved with just this mod (since the stock airbox is so restrictive). The Donaldson really lets the air in.
As SS said, you can always modify things down the line which will make whichever intake you choose even MORE effective.
