VetteQuest Mount and 8500x50 problem

VetteQuest Mount and 8500x50 problem
Ordered my VetteQuest under mirror mount for my Escort and installed it and then discovered that the 8500x50 has a different bracket than the one shown on their website. There's no hole. And no place to drill one.
Anybody have this mount and a newer 8500x50 and if so how'd you do it?

Here was my solution:
-I used the manufactures one - drilled a hole a smidgen larger than the bolt.
-I bent the bracket to conform to the best angle (after threading the nut through the drilled whole).
This works - but has two drawbacks:
1. Inserting the 8500 onto the mount requires contortions.
2. Unless the bolt is tight - the unit will have a tendency to flop around at WOT
