Default Should I chrome them?

Hey everyone! I've had my Quicksilver Z for about 4 days now, and I'm trying to decide if I want my wheels chromed. I'm having a tough time trying to decide.

Can anyone with a Quicksilver Z and chrome Z06 wheels please post a pic? A pic of any color Z should help, too.

Thanks!

Mike G.

I think chrome wheels will look sharp. Congrats on your new ride.

Wow, it definitely looks better with chrome Z06 wheels. I think I'm sold on getting them chromed, but more pics are always welcome.

Since you asked... I like a more functional, purposeful look. You don't see chrome on race cars or miltary aircraft. You do see lots of chrome on the pimp's ride. One of the things I love about the Z06 were the understated argent silver wheels. I think they are the best looking wheels I have seen to date. You asked and now you know what I think.
I remember my friend used to have a 65 green coupe (while I had a yellow convertible with the factory dull grey knock-off wheels with a little chrome on the center cone/spinner). He had these white wall tires that drove me crazy. It just ruined the whole look of the car. You never really noticed the beautiful lines of the car because your eye was distracted by these big ugly white circles. With chrome wheels the eye goes to the chrome first and they break up the flow of the cars lines. My 65 had the red line tires and I magic markered them black.
No offense to those with chrome wheels, it is just how I feel.

I had chrome wheels, and hated them, thought they were waaaaay to flashy for me.

Hi Mike -

Chrome always looks great in my opinion - and that is one way to go.

There is also the option of having Panther Precision Machine Machine the rims - that is cheaper and will not ever peel in the future..

That look is very good too - just trying to give you options...it's what we do here

Congrats on the Z!

best regards -

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions everyone. I'm leaning towards having them chromed, however I will look into machining them.

my vote goes for the factory painted wheels. i've been thinking of tinting my wheels with a little bit darker silver or maybe you could call it gun metal. i also have an 02 quicksilver z. i'm kind of tired of the chrome everything look. just me though.
i've been replacing parts of my harley with polished black annodized billet aluminum. wheels, triple tree, etc... looking cool

Hi Dantas -

Not much - couple of pounds per wheel depending on the quality.

Probably not a consideration on a street car IMO.

best regards -

I have a machine silver '04 with chrome rims. I'm not a flashy guy and am not into "bling" crap, however I feel the chrome really brings out the silver in the paint. The factory color rims make the car look "grey" in my opinion. Decisions - decisions!

WEll what I would do is buy a set of repro from one of our vendors...i think is is $650 shipped....this way you can have the originals as well...DO NOT SELL THEM...trust me....you will want them later in life and will have a hard time finding them.

You are probably going to have to pay about 300-400 to get them chromed, so why not have the second set and at least your car wont be down for the 1-2 weeks for chroming.

YEs there is a slight difference in weight, blah blah blah....but as someone already stated, it is more of a bling look than performance. If you ever do decide to track the car occasionally, you will have a good set on hand.

THis is what I would do.

I had chrome for a while and liked the look of them at first but after a while they didn't seem to go with the sports car look to me, plus the added weight was not worth it to me. I never have liked the look of the argent wheels though so I had some stockers painted light silver.

Ok, well I'm not going to chrome them or get them machined. I've decided to just wait a few months to get some more funds and buy a set of C6 Z06 style chrome wheels.

The dealer I got the car from says there is a guy who they send their customers who want wheels chromed to. That guy is charging $900 to chrome a set of wheels!

So I just decided to get the C6 Z06 wheels. I know I can have the stock ones chromed for less, but I think I'd still want to get the new Z06 wheels eventually.
