I like the idea a lot. But you're right, it looks bad with the top up. The cuts are odd angles. But a retractable hardtop is a great idea. Wonder who did the work for him. Good find.
I have seen the original prototype of this conversion on display at the Birthday Bash in Bowling Green a couple of years ago. It was a red Z06 displayed by the builder and owner of the car. I don't remember the back window looking like the black car's photos. Maybe the original car used the original back glass. The black car's back window does look a little funny, like the lift-off hardtops. Anyway, the construction and operation of the top was flawless. It was amazing watching it work, and it still retains decent trunk space with the top down. The important answer is I was told the conversion costs about $11,000.
There's a company called Coach Builders they build them. I think if i am not mistaken for $15,000 , they even do the C6 now too. It's a pretty cool idea but i don't like the way it looks when it's fully closed.

Top appears to be very similar to the one one my wife's 3000 gt spyder. Hers has worked well since we got the car in 1995. It now has over 101k mi. with probably 75% of the time, top going down at start of drive. If it is same design, I have nothing but praise for the company doing it as hers has NEVER been a problem.
