Default Big Leak

Im new to the Corvette world and was wondering if I might get some needed help. I just got a 99 vert and have just discovered a serious leak in the trunk are. It has been raining a lot lately . Is there a known place to look for the leaking area. The seals are in good shape so I am pretty sure that is not it. Any help will be appreciated.

Yep. First, do you park your car on a slope? If so, if the front is facing down on a slope, water cannot drain from the trunk gutter and finds its way inside the trunk.

Also, have you driven it in the rain a lot? Numerous memebrs have documented water finding its way through the wheel-well lining and into the trunk. One guy had removed his lining and had mass water in his trunk. He found the spot where water could get in and he sealed it.

Those are two not commonly known solutions. The rest would be in the weatherstripping around the trunk.

What? We're allowed to drive in the rain?

Sorry, no help here, but hope you find the
problem. Definately post afterwards what you
found out.

Good luck

Its been raining for 41 days here. I got into the trunk today and noticed that all of the trunk liner was soaked, dripping. Is it possible the liner could absorb that much water? I also vacuumed out the water in the bin it was about 7-8 inches deep. I pulled all of the carpet and did notice the weld seam on the right side was wet, near the gutter area, all the way back. Is it possible the seam has cracked or maybe the gutter is clogged? Thanks for the help.

Sure is, take out ALL of that carpet, and leave it out. When you diagnose leaks, you want carpet removed so you can pinpoint the leak. I would certainly suggest having a VERY close look, and then one sunny day going out there with a hose and blasting inside that wheel well. Find your leak, seal it.

And when you do, post your findings so all of us can absorb your knowledge and you will have made a very healthy contribution to the forums.

Uh Oh. I just noticed this too in my 97! I have about 1/2 of water polled up in the compartment, the back carpet appears dry, but when you lift it up and check the padding underneath it's all soaked!!! But it doesn't appear to be leaking in from the hatch or weather stripping seals or anything. So i understand water can leak in from the tirewells?!?!
