Default Which replacement key fob for 2000 C5?

Hi guys, I'm in need of some assistance in choosing a replacement key fob for my 2000 C5.
I had a new battery installed today at Batteries Plus and re-synch'ed the fob. It worked for a little while then stopped working. I keep re-synch'ing and it doesn't last for more than a few minutes.
I'm guessing it's time to replace the fob but here is the real question....

I read some posts saying eBay was the best place to get these fobs. Every eBay listing I've read so far shows fobs for 2001-2004 C5's or 1997-2000. The auction descriptions for the 1997-2000 remotes say they're for passive entry vehicles, but I thought passive entry was discontinued with the 1999 model

Can anyone give me some advice on the subject. I don't recall seeing anything in my 2000 owners video or manual explaining passive entry.

Thanks for the help.

I had the exact same problem.
I took the thing apart, and soldered the small broken black component back on then soldered wires from the board to the little (trashed) battery clips because they wouldnt make contact. Finally got it to work, but the range is like 2 feet.
Just ordered a new one from gmpartsdirect.com for $75 brand new. It beats the $131 at the dealer who dont have them in stock anyhow.
Part number for only 2000 is GM 10432147 ....its on the back of the remote.
Hope that helps

I'm afraid buying one on e-bay would just be buying someone else's problem. When the time comes to replace ours I will just bite the bullet and buy a new one from GM.

Just clean it. CRC electric contact cleaner with do the job and will not harm the plastic or the rubber. Mine wouldn't work at all but after cleaning it, it has the range of a new one.

Hi,
I was just getting on to ask the same question. I am now on my second key fob in about one years' time. The first one just stopped working. I tried a new battery; still wouldn't work. I bought a new fob, resync'd and it worked great for a while. It quit, I replaced the battery and just like yours it will work for about a minute or so and then it's done! Very irritating as expensive as they are. I guess I will try that electrical cleaner. Good luck with yours!

I cleaned all the contacts in both our fobs with CRC Contact Cleaner. Now both fobs are working perfectly - better range, memory seat functions work again, and the Window Valet works like it is supposed to!

Wow, I just took my fob apart and rubbed down the battery contacts with a cotton cloth. I noticed one of the terminals was bent in so it wasn't making good contact on the battery. I bent it back out and put the fob back together... now the fob works like new

Maybe some of you who are having problems should try this as well. I'm not sure if it was the cleaning or bending or both that fixed it but it just saved me $100.
