Default 2002 Vert with 200 miles

Looking at a white exterior red interior 2002 Convertible today. Has 200 miles, kept in a garage since new.

They are asking $38,000. No HUD (don't know if was available), Automatic. Any thoughts would be appreciated, I'm new to the Vette world.

Thanks

Well, You can't beat the miles. I don't think I've ever seen one with lower miles. I do believe HUD was an option. BTW, you can add HUD for around $300. That is, if you do it yourself.

Check the gas and all the fluids. Also check for leaks [eg.oil, trans ect].If the gas is four years old without stabilizer there could be a problem.

200 miles sounds like someone bought it and never drove it at all. What a waste of a good vehicle. Keep in mind, even though it has 200 miles, it's a 5 year old car and 38K is too much.

Also, a car sitting and undriven is worse than being driven daily. It could have cracked seals and dryrot, then again it could be ok. It's worth looking into.

I would offer 28K, if he asks why tell him that you will most likely need to replace seals and hoses and those tires as well.

Just be carefull, cars that sit in storage can have all kinds of problems.

Dry rot
Gas varnish
Oil Condensation
Tires getting hard
Cracking seals and rubber
Moisture problems

If you can, ask to take the car to a good local shop for a look over.

Looks like it was at a Chevy dealer and has the extended warranty. I offered them 35k yesterday. We shall see.

I have to agree with this. I used to let my Vettes sit in the garage more than they were on the road and I discovered that the cars deteriorated more sitting than they did when driven daily.

Well, let me know if you get it, I won't interfere. Salesman told me yesterday it was purchased for a lady by her husband, who right after the purchase, passed away. She just traded it for a new one. So you know she took a bath. The red seats a VERY red, but the car is in great shape.
I would be the dealer changed the fluids and rode it a bit since it came into them with 176 miles and now actually has 203.
I understand bad things that happen to cars that sit too long, it was why I asked for opinions.

Thanks to everyone who responded and we'll see what happens.

$38K is WAY too much. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that. If you are willing to pay $40K just get a new Vette with a warranty.

Why didn't they drive it?

Even with the low miles, $38K is too much IMO. that maybe between $32-33K would be more like it.

Offer him/her a tube of KY first before you make this one.
