Default Power window broke - common problem?

My passeger side power window broke yesterday. Fortunately, it is in the up position. I hear a click when I press the button, but nothing happens. It is a 2004 with 39k so I am out of warranty. Is it just my bad luck with power windows or is this a fairly common problem? I have replaced the drivers side motor 3 times and passenger side once on my wife's 99 Sunfire with 112k on it.

Mine was replaced at 20,000 miles, maybe it is because it is not used as much.

I had the passenger window motor replaced in my 1999 coupe, with about 14,000 miles on it. It seems to be a common problem, due to lack of use.

It's funny, cause mine was doing the same thing. I went to GM and complained (my local dealer is a very large GM dealer) and they acted like it was really uncommon and they didnt know what it could be.

Then they told me it wasnt covered under the EXTENDED BUMPER to BUMPER warranty that I purchased!!

When I went to show them the problem, it worked (of course) so they didnt have to hear me bitch for them to fix the problem...

and GM wonders why they're doing so poorly

The Fonz trick didn't do anything for me other than maybe make me look stupid if someone happened to notice. Thanks for the tip though.

This happened to me on the passenger side. I called Gene's Karshop(forum vendor) and he had a used one for a fair price. It really is not that hard to replace the motor assembly yourself. Take the door panel off and it is pretty straight forward. It would be nice to have a buddy help hold the glass. Before you re-install the door panel make sure you test drive the car on the hwy with the windows up and check for wind noise, you my need to adjust the glass and you want to do this before you re-install the door panel. If you get into trouble someone here on the forum will help you out.

I just take the bottom of the door panel off , reach in with the end of a big screwdriver , bang on the motor while holding the swith down and it will start working again.
