mod bug has hit, after 2 days
what kinda shifter do you guys recommend...i want something shorter, more tight feel, but not have to throw my choulder out getting it in gear...

I ahve used both the C6 Z06 shifter and the Hurst Shifter. For normal driving I would buy the C6 Z06 Shifter. It has the short throw like you want and is easy to shift.
For someone that is banging the gears doing 1/4 miles or HPDEs I would go with Hurst. It just feels like it can take more of a beating and going 2nd to 3rd you never miss. It does take more effort to shift gears and people that are in traffic a lot complain about it.
BTW - I have the hurst.

.look carefully ...add a mod with a vision of the whole vette modded...
It will save a lot of money changing to what you want later...
