Default Typical usable fuel range?

I'd like some feedback on what folks think is their typical usable fuel range. I don't have my car yet (day after tomorrow) and I'm trying to do some trip planning.

How many gallons does it usually take when you fill up?

What mileage do you get?

TIA!

If you are talking about highway driving, I normally get about 30-33 mpg with my car (6 speed, driving about 5 over the speed limit). In town, 16-20 depending on traffic and whether I keep my foot out of the gas.

First question.....15 gal, although it'll hold 18.

Second question.....29-31 with an A4 and 2.73 gears @ 70mhp

Third question (implied range).....when you hit 400 miles, better start looking for a gas station. At 425, look harder. At 450, get your walkin' shoes on and take a hike.

Don't forget the dreaded fuel sensor problems. Mine used to make the gauge read zero after a few hours of driving in warm weather. I had it fixed, but I always use the trip odometer as a backup when on a long trip and I rarely go past 300 miles per tank just to leave a margin for error.

It greatly depends on whether or not you have an Auto or a 6-speed trans. Mods. and rearend gear play a role as well. The tank is 18 gallons.

I have an Auto with a 3.15 rearend. I only have an intake and a SuperChips Program and have driven it purely on the Interstate for an entire tank (stopped for gas right off of a ramp).

With the cruise set at 75 mph I got about 25 mpg and went for well over 400 miles. In town I really can't say because it varies so much.

With 6spd about 350 miles and I start looking, however, I do my best not to get below 1/4 tank. My 2000 vert 6spd, I average 28mpg with all kinds of different driving.

I managed to stretch it to 500 miles one time but usually start thinking about gas at 1/4 tank.

I averaged 32.5 MPG driving from Phoenix to Minneapolis (I-17 to I-40 to I-35), and this was with a cruising speed of around 80-85MPH.

6 speed with some bolt-ons (see sig).

I managed one stretch of 500 miles on the trip, but I usually started looking for brand-name gas stations around the 400 mile mark.

In mixed driving, I fill up every 300 miles, and usually put in 12-16 gallons, depending on how heavy my right foot has been lately.

I usually fill up around 1/8th of a tank, or a little under... and its usually something like 16ish gallons. Generally around 350miles and i tend to average 22mpg combined City AND freeway driving. Of course, my commute is about 10 minutes of city, then 10 minutes of freeway...

Thats with a generally mild driving style, with ocassional 'rapid accelleration' instances when needed... lol DIC Says i average 24.5mpg... but my manual calulations lean towards 22.5... close enough...

Thanks guys, appreciate it. I'm planning a trip out West and I know from experience out there that fuel stations have to be planned for if you're off the Interstate. I used to do it on motorcycles though, so 300 miles to a tank seems very luxurious. I'll use 300 for planning purposes, and I'm sure that will be plenty.
